Term
Quadriceps
Meaning
The quadriceps is the group of four muscles at the front of the thigh, forming its large mass above the knee. OpenStax says they extend the knee. They also help stabilise it. For artists it is a tapered form, thick at the hip and narrowing toward the knee, with its teardrop-shaped inner part sitting low near the kneecap. Drawing it as one wedge with a direction, rather than four separate shapes, is a good start. See also: Patella, Pelvis, Trapezius and the guide "Major Muscle Groups for Artists: Shapes Over Names".
