Malleolus

Meaning

A malleolus is one of the two rounded bony bumps at either side of the ankle: the inner one is the end of the shin bone (tibia) and the outer one is the end of the thinner fibula (OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology). Many figure-drawing teachers note that the outer bump sits slightly lower and further back, a detail that stops ankles and feet looking flat and symmetrical. Check it against your reference, since individuals vary. See also: Patella, Quadriceps and the guide "Drawing Hands and Feet: Simple Masses and Clear Structure".
