Olecranon
Meaning
The olecranon is the bony tip of the elbow, the upper end of the ulna that lies at the back of the joint (OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology). It matters because it is a fixed landmark: the forearm length from the olecranon to the wrist does not change, even when the muscles of the arm bulge or relax. In drawing, it marks the point where the back of the upper arm and the forearm meet when the elbow bends.
