What is a drawing mannequin?
The answer
A drawing mannequin is a simplified figure made of basic shapes, such as a sphere or oval for the head, boxes or eggs for the ribcage and pelvis, tapered cylinders for limbs and small balls for joints. Artists use it to plan the pose, perspective and overlap before adding detail. Drawing each shape as transparent, so you can see lines passing through, helps you understand what lies behind what. It is a scaffold only; refine it afterwards with observation of the real body.
