Acromion
Meaning
The acromion is the bony tip of the shoulder, a projection of the shoulder blade that joins the outer end of the collarbone (OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology). It is easy to see or feel at the top of the shoulder, so artists use it as the outer anchor of the shoulder line, measured against the pit of the neck. Because bones keep their length, the distance from the pit of the neck to the acromion stays fixed while the muscles around it change.
