Where do the eyes go on a head?

The answer

On an adult head the eyes sit roughly halfway down the whole head, including the skull, which is lower than most beginners draw them. A common mistake is to place them near the top, leaving too little room for the cranium. Children have proportionally larger craniums, so their eyes appear lower still. This is a rough guide that varies between individuals, so check it against your reference: the eye line, brow line and centre line should all agree with the turn of the head.
