How many heads tall is a figure?
The answer
There is no single correct number, but a common teaching convention is about seven heads for an average adult. The University of Evansville drawing lab teaches seven, says most people are between six and seven heads high, and shows an eight-head model because that looks more correct in a drawing. Instructors differ, and children have proportionally larger heads, so their totals are smaller. Treat any head count as a rough starting guide and measure the actual person you are drawing.
