Why are hands so hard to draw?
The answer
Hands are hard to draw because they pack many small joints into a compact space, take countless positions, and viewers notice even small errors in them. The usual solution is to simplify: start with a flattened block for the palm, then add tapered finger segments, three per finger and two for the thumb. Fingers differ in length and thickness, so avoid identical sausages. Drawing your own free hand repeatedly, including holding objects, builds skill faster than memorising bone names.
